Facial Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation is a broad term used to encompass surgical and non-surgical approaches to making the face look younger.  Each approach is unique to a patient’s needs, and a conversation regarding areas of concern and desired outcomes with Dr. Coon allows him to customize a treatment plan tailored to your goals. Non-surgical procedures may include injectables, dermal treatments and more. Common treatments include Botox injections, filler injections (typically hyaluronic acid, such as Juvederm or Restylane), or microdermabrasion.

Surgical approaches include procedures like eye lift, brow lift, facelift, chin lift, neck lift, fat grafting and targeted liposuction. Incisions are made in areas that are well-hidden, reducing the appearance of scars. Dr. Coon also offers minimally invasive options such as short-scar facelift or MACS lift (minimal access cranial suspension) which can be used to reduce this further in appropriate patients. Some procedures, such as upper eyelid or lip lift, can be performed in the office under local anesthesia.

While each lift procedure focuses on a specific area, the goal is typically to remove excess sagging skin while undoing the descent caused by aging, allowing restoration of youthful facial contour and appearance. Aging involves multiple factors, which include 1) increased skin laxity and wrinkles, 2) sagging of tissue, and 3) deflation from loss of facial volume. Lifting procedures address the first two problems while injectable fillers or fat grafting typically address the third. A comprehensive approach incorporating multiple techniques is often recommended to provide the best result.

Looking natural after facial rejuvenation is just as important as looking younger – all of our procedures are planned with the first priority being maintenance of normal appearance without any telltale signs or overly aggressive changes.

Rhinoplasty (also known as septorhinoplasty if it includes correction of the septum) is a surgical procedure to repair the form and function of the nose. The nose is a critical area of the face and one of the defining factors in facial appearance.  Rhinoplasty is a complex surgical procedure which we strongly believe in individualizing to each individual patient – there are dozens of potential techniques which can be employed to achieve various desired goals, but any given patient will only need a unique subset.

Rhinoplasty can also include a septoplasty to correct a deviated, disrupted, or absent septum.  This can dramatically improve air passage, leading to improved breathing and better sleep.

While there are certain universal norms regarding how a nose should or should not look, within these broad limits there is a great deal of subjectivity on what the ideal nose for a given face may be. Dr. Coon often uses 3D facial scanning and virtual simulation to collaborate with patients to define the desired goals of the procedure and develop an individualized surgical plan to achieve them.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical approach to enhance natural breast tissue through placement of breast implants. This surgery allows a patient to increase the size and shape of her breasts.  Sometimes breast augmentation may coincide with a mastopexy, or breast lift.  In a mastopexy, the surgeon will lift the natural breast tissue to reverse the effects of gravity.  The size of the implants and the surgical approach will vary according to the patient’s goals. Implants can be placed under the muscle (subpectoral or dual plane) or over the muscle (subglandular) depending on the patient’s body type, desired implants and lifestyle goals. We typically prefer to work collaboratively with patients and encourage trying on of breast sizers preoperatively to decide upon the ideal volume for patient satisfaction.

Body Contouring

Body contouring covers an entire range of procedures designed to enhance the patient’s body appearance and help minimize or eliminate “problem” areas. Body contouring should not be considered weight loss surgery, although when used to enhance physical appearance following significant weight loss it can be effective in achieving a significant improvement in appearance and bodily function. Surgical procedures used in body contouring may include liposuction, tummy tuck, arm lifts, thigh lifts, and numerous other procedures.

Liposuction is a minimally invasive option that can yield striking results for targeted reshaping of specific body areas in appropriate patients. In some cases it may be combined with fat grafting to further emphasize the effects of liposuction by adding volume in areas that were deficient while slimming areas where there is fat excess. In other cases, it may be combined with surgical procedures to enhance the result. For example, in lipoabdominoplasty the stomach area is flattened with a ‘tummy tuck’ and the waist and flanks are narrowed via targeted liposuction in a way that can be more effective than trying to do either procedure alone.
